4-H Members Answer the Challenge

The first Texas 4-H Outdoor Challenge was held June 26-27 at the Texas 4-H Center in Brownwood. Despite the 100 degree temperatures, participants were cool, calm and collected while participating in ten different outdoor events.

The purpose of the event was to challenge a young person’s knowledge and skills in events such as wildlife identification, camping, archery, safety, canoeing, and shotgun while enhancing teamwork, decision-making, and communication. The ultimate goal however is to develop a life-long connection between individuals and the great outdoors.

We are pleased to announce the following results:

1st Place Senior Team – Tom Green County
Members: Tye Weber, Connor Hoelscher, Corey Schwartz, and Jacob Daughtry

2nd Place Senior Team – Austin County
Members: Cole Rinn, Galen Krebs, Jonathan Spiess, and Jordan Spiess

3rd Place Senior Team – Johnson/McClennan Counties

Congratulations to all of our contestants!

"Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the mountains and the stars up above. Let them look at the beauty of the waters and the trees and flowers on earth. They will then begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education." - David Polis
